Ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene (UHMWPE) fiber, is high-tech fiber emerging in the first 1990’s. It is regarded as one of the world’s three high performance fiber (carbon fiber, aramid fiber and PE fiber). UHMWPE fiber possesses such characteristics as high molecular weight, high degree of orientation and high crystallization. So its strength is the best one of all fibers in today’s world. Besides, it is also low density, high modulus, UV resistance, corrosion resistance, outstanding anti-impact and anti-incision. UHMWPE fiber is widely used in national defense equipment and special civil application, such as producing tank, armored car, warship, bulletproof plate, bulletproof helmet, bulletproof jacket, cut-resistance jacket, cut-resistance gloves and fabric, ropes for seaport, naval vessel, dragline for deep-sea oil and natural gas drilling, trawling net, net cage against deep-sea winds and waves, high performance sports equipment and advanced composite materials, etc.
In the 1990s, the product was only produced by DSM of Holland, HONEYWELL of USA and Mitsui of Japan. In order to promote our national chemical fiber development, our company has begun the research on UHMWPE fiber since 1996. After three years’ hard efforts, it was realized industrialization and filled the blank of our country in this field. The company became the fourth manufacturer possessing its own intellectual property right in the world. At present stage, the company has achieved its annual capacity of 1800 tons of UHMWPE fiber.
